Abt Associates has been working in India since 2002 to expand the contraceptive choices for women and to improve the uptake of modern contraceptive methods and enhance family planning outcomes.
Abt launched the DIMPA (depot medroxyprogesterone acetate - the generic name of injectable contraceptive) program in 2003 to engage the private sector to increase access to and demand for depot medroxyprogesterone acetate, a three-monthly injectable contraceptive.
Abt’s DIMPA network of private service providers currently includes 108 towns of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and more than 2,500 private doctor’s clinics. During the phase I of the project, Abt’s field team has been approaching these network doctors for a face to face interaction at a specific duration to follow up with them on the status of clients and also to update them on any new development on injectable contraceptive for their reference. However now, during the phase II, it is proposed to maintain the connectivity with the private sector doctors virtually by creating a virtual network using a mobile app complemented with social media.
As mentioned above, the linkage with Dimpa network doctors will be maintained through a virtual network using a mobile app supplemented with some select social mediums like you tube as well as other digital medium like google plus and slide share etc. These media will be used for interactions with the network doctors for updating them on technical aspects of DMPA. The network has to be kept alive and made to thrive with the help of mobile app coupled with other social and digital media.
The mobile app will act as the hub in the centre of the virtual network and will be duly supplemented with other digital and social mediums to make the virtual network functional and vibrant.
The material will be made available to the network doctors either through mobile app directly (like pdf docs) or through a link provided using mobile app depending upon the size of the file.
Materials (existing and newly developed) will be uploaded on digital and social sites (as per the need) and the link will be than be shared through the mobile app with the network doctors through a push messaging facility so that doctors can click the link and reach out to the uploaded material and read as well as download them for later reference.
Doctors will download the app from google and apple stores and use the app to access reference materials, events list, news and views on family planning to keep themselves updated on family planning.
